Gift Suggestions for Your Significant Others

Because most of us are men and those we love have absolutely NO idea what to buy us for the Holidays, we need to give them some suggestions. We all want to look our best at all times- whether we’re just beginning our business careers or are captains of industry.

Here are some BAD ideas:

  1.     Suits-a man should always choose his own suit, and learn to do so with the advice of his tailor or style consultant. A suit is arguably the most important tool in a man’s business arsenal and a significant investment in his future. I’m not a misogynist but this is man’s work.
  2.     Flannel Shirts- how many men out there need another flannel shirt?
  3.     Ties- the volume of men braving horrendous return lines the Day after Christmas speaks toward this. Let us choose our own ties!

In contrast, below are some gifts that would be welcome additions to our wardrobes:

  1.     Navy Blazer- simply the Gold Standard of the well-dressed man. Every man should have at least one in his wardrobe. I recommend two-a a lighter weight for warmer weather and a wool or wool/cashmere blend for the winter. The navy blazer can be dressed up or down and is appropriate for all but the most formal business situations.
  2.     Tweed Blazer- another traditional favorite for the winter months in cooler climates. Gray is best because it matches more items in your wardrobe. This blazer is a great complement to the navy blazer. What well-dressed man would settle for only one option?
  3.     Charcoal Flannel Trousers- a building block of any successful man’s winter wardrobe. If you already have one pair, perhaps pleated, another pair in flat front is still a great gift. You can never have enough gray flannel trousers.
  1.     Cotton Khaki Slacks. One can never have enough of these either. Currently, no pleats are the rage, may we suggest:
  2.     Pocket Squares are the new tie. Many men now work in a corporate casual environment. Stand out from the crowd. Instead of wearing the standard company-issued polo shirt and Dockers, try your tweed coat or navy blazer, charcoal or navy slacks, and a subtle matching pocket square.
  3.       Loafers are another classic addition to a man’s wardrobe. Loafers are for dressing down and corporate casual environments. Brown matches more ensembles and should be purchased over black. NEVER wear loafers with a suit; leather soles are best, and tassels look silly. A suede slip-on is a timelessly elegant fashion statement. A man can never have enough quality pairs of shoes in his closet.
  1.     Understated sweaters are the final suggestion for an addition to a well-dressed man’s wardrobe. Black, gray, or ivory are great colors to have. Polos work well for everyone:

If you have the neck for it, mocks are another option:

Consult your tailor or style consultant to see which is best for you.

Now you have some suggestions for the loved ones in your life who think you have everything. While we should all pause and give thanks for our many blessings during this Holiday season, who really has everything?

Shopping for shoes? Flat Shoe Myths

lat shoes don’t get nearly as much attention as heels do. They just don’t seem quite as exciting.

But just because flats aren’t necessarily flashy, doesn’t mean they’re frumpy.

Or does it?

I’m going to address five of the most common misconceptions about flat shoes for women, and tell you why these assumed facts are nothing more than age-old myths.

 1) Flats are More Comfortable Than Heels

A lot of people mistakenly believe that flat shoes are always more comfortable than high heels. This is false.

In addition to the fact that some heeled shoes are actually quite comfortable, some flats simply are not. Quite frankly, some of them are downright torturous.

If you find flats uncomfortable, you may want to check out this list of possible causes and solutions.

2) Flat Shoes are Frumpy and Unattractive

While it’s true that many high heeled shoes are undeniably sexy, that doesn’t automatically make flats unattractive.

Sure, some flats are frumpy all on their own. But, there are lots of stylish, sophisticated, and yes, even sexy flats out there. You just have to look for them. And once you find a pair that is chic, be sure to wear them with the right outfits.

Because no matter how posh a pair of suede loafers may look on the shelf, they’re going to look downright awful with a skirt or dress.

3) Flat Shoes Don’t Look Dressy

Don’t mistake “dressy” for “wearing dresses.” Because, while it’s true that you probably won’t find a pair of flats that will work with your favorite cocktail dress, there are plenty of other ways to dress up.

Nice pants, suits, maxi skirts, and even some shorter dresses look amazing with flat shoes. You just need to choose the right style for your outfit.

For example, pointy-toed flats usually look a bit more dressy than styles with rounded toes. If you’re planning to wear a short, summery evening dress, then you may want to consider a pair of delicate thong sandals. Flat tall boots look great with maxi skirts; and evening pants or suits are perfectly matched to classic or smoking-styled loafers.

4) Flat Shoes Are Good for Your Feet

Wearing high heels excessively, or for extended periods of time, is not good for our feet — or for the rest of our bodies. That’s a well-established fact.

But, bad shoes are bad shoes, no matter how high or low their heels are. So, if you wear a pair of ill-fitting, unsupportive, or otherwise unsuitable flats, you can still cause severe damage to your feet.

To avoid pain and problems, you should be measured by a professional to find your proper shoe size and width, and follow all the basic rules for trying on shoes. Once you’ve found a few pairs that are comfortable, consider rotating them instead of wearing one pair every day.

5) Flat Shoes Aren’t as Sexy as Heels

Of course, sexy is in the eye of the beholder, but I promise you that not everyone thinks high heels are sexy. In fact, several people have told me that they find them to be more of a turn-off than anything else.

And, if flats were never considered sexy, how would you explain all the people who are turned on by women athletes that they’ve only seen in cross-trainers?

Granted, few people would probably classify bulky, orthopedic shoes as “hot.” But then again, most people wouldn’t think a woman wobbling on 6″ heels with hoof-like platform soles was oozing sex appeal either.

If you’re not going for the sporty look, shop for really nice streamlined, delicate, funky, or feminine styles — whatever works with your own personal style.

Trust me, if you pull together a nice collection of clothing and shoes that represents who you really are, then you’re perfect partner will find it… well, perfect.

6) Flat Shoes are Old-Fashioned

What is really old-fashioned is thinking that age has anything to do with our sense of style.

A young woman shouldn’t feel pressured to wear heels any more than a healthy, able-bodied 70-year old should be forced to wear orthopedic flats.

Wear the best of what suits you, and you’ll never go wrong. See more fashion tips here at Quatty Wot.

Perfect Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas for Women

Choose the Best Valentine’s Day Presents for Spouses and Girlfriends

Every February, men across the nation are stumped. What are the expectations on Valentine’s Day? Is she expecting jewelery? Is sending a bouquet of flowers cliche?

Valentine’s Day is often referred to as a day for lovers, but many men consider it a woman’s holiday. As a result, in early February, panic begins to set in. No man wants to ruin a Valentine’s Day celebration for his girlfriend or spouse. But how does he find out what she wants and what she expects? What are the best romantic gifts for her?

A Woman’s Personality Should Inspire Valentine’s Day Ideas

A woman’s personality can provide guidance when trying to determine what type of gift or celebration is best. Is she sentimental? If she collects photographs, cherishes keepsakes from dates, and has a song that she feels commemorates the love in her relationship, she will be looking for a romantic Valentine’s Day experience. Sending her flowers will melt her heart. Taking her out for a special dinner will please her. Snuggling by the fire with a bottle of wine and some chocolate will take her breath away. A locket with a meaningful quote or date inscribed in it will make her weep.

If she is active and adventurous, however, a different approach may be in order. A woman who loves to spend weekends hiking trails, skiing, and lifting weights may be looking for something a bit less traditional. A date that begins at a rock climbing gym or at a dance studio to learn the Tango may be in order. Don’t deprive her of a romantic meal, but consider her tastes. If she is a health nut, she may prefer a restaurant with lighter fare, and may balk at a box of chocolates.

Do Women Want Valentine’s Day Presents?

Men want to know: do women expect Valentine’s Day gifts? Look at past holidays to answer this question. Some women focus more on gifts than others. If she tends to purchase lots of gifts for friends, family, and the men in her life, she may well expect one. If she went crazy buying gifts over the holidays, the sentiment of a gift may be important to her.

However, if she tends to focus more on experiences, she may be more impressed by a carefully planned evening than a bauble in a box. In that case, focus on creating a meaningful and creative Valentine’s Day, not searching for a gift.

Romantic Valentine’s Day Gifts Reflect Her Likes and Dislikes

Romantic Valentine’s Day gifts demonstrate thought, care, and love. They are gifts that reflect an understanding of the woman and the love being celebrated. Consider a woman’s preferences. Think about past experiences and gift giving occasions. Tune into her desires, and listen to see if she is dropping hints about her expectations. After doing this homework, plan something special, make a purchase if appropriate, and enjoy.

Searching for the perfect gift for that special girl? Check out the following great gift ideas when buying women’s presents. These presents are great for Valentine’s Day, a birthday, Christmas or other special occasions.

Gifts for the Modern Girl

The modern, urban girl loves anything that oozes style, quality, and superior technology. Boyfriends can surprise their gals with any of these cool gadgets – a brightly colored Fujifilm FinePix Z30 digital camera, an AVLABS digital photo frame, a pink Sony 2GB MP3 Walkman, a Sony Ericsson W595 prepaid mobile phone in her favorite color or the Pure Sensia touchscreen FM/DAB/web radio with five built-in applications including Twitter, Facebook, Picasa, Weather and News.

Gifts for the Romantic Girl

The romantic girl thinks with her heart. So the best approach is to get her something that appeals to her emotionally. The gift doesn’t have to be expensive, but it does need to reflect thoughtfulness on the boyfriend’s part. Gifts like flowers, chocolate, and jewelry are fine. But try to make them extra special.

For instance, the flowers can be arranged in the form of her name; the chocolate can be packed in a big personalized mug or basket, and the jewelry can be heart-shaped and placed in a jewelry box embossed with a special message. Other gift ideas for a romantic girlfriend include romance novels by her favorite authors and romantic movies starring her favorite movie stars.

Presents for Artistic Women

If the girlfriend is into the arts, there are plenty of gift choices too. Awaken the artist in her by signing her up for a painting course, flower arranging classes or getting her an exclusive art gallery membership. A thoughtful boyfriend may also consider taking his artistic girlfriend to a ballet performance, stage play or opera. After all, where else can the loved one experience colorful costumes and extravagant sets and props? If money is not an issue, the boyfriend can also consider buying her paintings by famous artists.

Presents for Sporty Women

If keeping fit is a big part of the girlfriend’s life, get her some fashionable sports gear and bags, sign her up for 10 personal trainer sessions at her gym, buy her a heart rate monitor, or pledge to be her regular gym partner. If she doesn’t fancy hitting the gym, surprise her with the Wii Fit Plus and its 4-in-1 Fitness Bundle with pink accessories so that she can exercise in the comfort of her home.

If the sporty girlfriend prefers working out outdoors, get her a portable UV monitor that can calculate the optimal sun exposure time based on UV levels, skin type and sunscreen applied. That way, she can exercise outside and still avoid getting a sunburn.

Experience Gifts for Girlfriends

Want to try something really different? Get an experience gift for that special someone. Buy vouchers for different kinds of unique experiences from websites such as Redballoondays.com.au, Totalexperience.com.au, and Adrenalin.com.au. Thrill her with a hot air balloon or helicopter ride, pamper her with a trip to a day spa, take her on a romantic sunset cruise, enroll her in a make-up course or sign her up for a guided horse trail ride. A unique experience is always unforgettable. Be prepared to pay a big sum of money for experience gifts, though!

Different gifts appeal to women with different personalities and likes. With some planning and lots of thinking, a guy can find the perfect gift for his girlfriend – whether she is modern, romantic, artistic, sporty or adventurous – on Valentine’s Day, her birthday, Christmas or any other special occasions.
